Canon is about to release the EF 50mm f/1.8 IS STM sometime this month, and the “leaked” image above is how the lens is going to look. While I’m sure the build quality and auto focus will both be improved, along with a slightly higher price tag, it’s unlikely that this is the real image. There’s also been no rumors regarding the Image Stabilization (which this lens has), so we’ll just have to wait a few more days/weeks.
CanonRumors posted that a new 50mm f/1.2L II could be announced after the new Rebel cameras start shipping, but it’s also possible that we won’t see this lens until 2016. It is said to be slightly smaller and heavier, better at image quality and not a dollar cheaper than the current version. Before this lens, it’s possible that Canon will rather replace the 35mm f/1.4L first.
