Canon T7i Advantages:
- Built-in Video Stabilization – You get a 5 axis electronic stabilization that works only in video mode. Huge advantage for shooting with lenses that don’t have IS, and even with those that do have it!
- Dual Pixel AF – The T7i is the first Rebel to feature Dual Pixel AF technology. Auto focusing for video and live view photography is now faster and smoother.
- 1 stop higher maximum ISO – 51,200 vs 25,600. The quality should be similar, but expect slightly better results at high ISO due to the new Digic 7 processor
- 45 vs 19 AF Points – This is easily the most amazing feature of any Rebel in the past few years. Having 45 points allows you to be more precise with where you want to focus on your subject
- 45 cross-type points – Cross-type points are more accurate than regular ones, and this type was usually reserved for more expensive models. Not anymore! The T6s isn’t bad with 19, but the T7i is on a whole another level, borrowing the focusing system from the Canon 80D
- 6 vs 5fps – One extra frame per second isn’t revolutionary, but it’s enough to make a difference if you often shoot sports and wildlife often.
- Bigger RAW Buffer – If you shoot RAW, you’ll be glad to know that the T7i at 6fps allows you to take 27 RAW shots (21 more) before the buffer fills. Both cameras offer unlimited JPEG shots.
- Time Lapse feature
- Bluetooth – You can now send your shots using Bluetooth
- Battery Life – Despite Bluetooth being constantly on, the T7i’s battery will get you 260 more photographs with a single charge.
- Weight & Size – The T7i is slightly smaller and lighter
- Less Expensive – Body only, the T7i is around $100 cheaper
What to say, the new Canon T7i wasn’t a minor upgrade. The addition of Dual Pixel AF is enough to upgrade if you’re serious about using auto focus for recording videos, as it’s smoother and more accurate. Then there’s the built-in 5-axis video stabilization and a longer battery life.
For photography, the new 45 vs 19 AF point system is also a big upgrade, as you’ll have more focus points to choose from. Not saying 19 is bad, since a couple of years ago professional DSLRs had only 9 and were still usable.
Plus, the T7i costs less!

Canon T6s Advantages:
- Top LCD Display – When shooting in manual/semi-automatic modes, previewing your settings on the top LCD screen is much faster
- Rear Control Dial – There’s a main dial to control most of the functions instead of buttons, which in many cases leads to quicker setting selection
The T6s is a T6i on steroids (talking about its exterior) so its main advantage is only the top LCD screen.
