Canon 77D Advantages:
- Megapixels – The 77D has 4 more megapixels. Not a lot, but if you’re going to crop a lot then it’s an advantage.
- Built-in Video Stabilization – The Canon 77D features built-in 5-axis electronic video stabilization
- Auto Focus – The 77D’s AF is way more sophisticated. It’s got 45 vs 11 AF points, and all 45 are cross-type compared to just 1 on the 6D. It’ll be better for sports, low light and pretty much anything. The 6D isn’t slow or bad, it’s just that the 5 year newer 77Di is simply a lot better here
- 6 vs 4.5fps – 1.5 extra difference every second.
- LCD Screen – It’s fully articulated and also touchscreen. Better for selecting your focus point on the LCD screen and recording videos
- Full HD at 60fps – If videos are important to you, 60 vs 30fps results in smoother slow motion clips
- Bigger buffer – The RAW buffer is bigger; 27 vs 17.
- Connections – The 77D has built-in Bluetooth and NFC support
- Size & Weight – The 77Dis a lot smaller and lighter (200g difference)
- Less expensive – Body only, the 77D costs around $600 less
The 77D uses a smaller sensor and can therefore shoot 6fps at 24 megapixels and be this compact. The AF system is much better for both action and low light photography, and the fully articulated touchscreen LCD is excellent for videos.

Canon EOS 6D Advantages:
- Full Frame vs APS-C – FF sensors are bigger and therefore show less noise when shooting at higher ISO (1,600+)
- Higher Max ISO – 1 stop higher max ISO
- Viewfinder – The 6D has a 97% coverage and 1.00x magnification. It won’t affect your photographs, but you’ll be able to see your subjects better when looking through the 6D’s viewfinder.
- Built-in GPS – No need to buy external GPS adapters
- Environmentally Sealed – Much more protected against water/snow/dust etc.
- Battery Life – 1090 vs 600 shots with a single charge!
The Canon EOS 6D is an affordable full frame camera, which is why you don’t see as many bells and whistles. For mostly stills, portraits, studio and landscape, it’s an excellent tool and many also use it for sports too. It’s just that the AF system doesn’t have as many (cross) points as we’d like today, but back in 2012 this was a big reason why it was more affordable.
It’s bigger, but still relatively light for a FF camera and can be used for traveling in all sorts of conditions thanks to its sealing and longer battery life.
