Canon T7i Advantages:
- Video Stabilization – The 77D has built-in 5-axis electronic video stabilization that will make your footage look less shaky.
- LCD Screen – The screen is fully articulating, whereas the A6300 only tilts. Better for recording yourself.
- Touchscreen – The LCD of the T7i is touchscreen. This is great for selecting your focus point on the screen itself, zooming in the pictures and navigating through the menus.
- Top LCD Display – Very useful for previewing your settings, battery life and other modes without constantly having to check the rear LCD display
- JPEG & RAW Buffer – No limit to how many JPEG’s you can take before the buffer fills.
- Flash Sync Speed – A little bit faster at 1/200 vs 1/160
- Startup Time – Not tested yet, but DSLRs turn on ~0.5s faster than even the fastest mirrorless cameras. The 77D should be no exception
- Battery Life – 200 shots more with a single charge. These are CIPA tests where the flash is used for 50% of the photographs, so expect both to go much higher in normal situations.
- Bluetooth – You can now send your shots using Bluetooth
- Lens Mount – As of 2017, there are a lot more lenses you can use on the T7i. Sony has some impressive lenses too, but this is where Canon’s 30+ year old EF mount comes in play
- Less Expensive – Body only, the 77D costs around $200 less
If video is your main priority, you’re probably in a dilemma right now. The Canon 77D offers video stabilization, touchscreen and a better LCD screen, but there’s no 4K recording.
The Canon 77D is quite a lot cheaper and $200 could get you 1 affordable prime lens. It depends on what features you find important, but both cameras will be excellent for photography! Despite being a DSLR, the 77D is also not that heavier so if you’re okay with the bigger size and prefer Canon’s EF lenses, a bigger battery life and the previously mentioned video improvements, you’ll love it.

Sony A6300 Advantages:
- 425 AF Points – Almost 10x as many AF points.
- 11 vs 6fps – A very big difference for sports and wildlife
- Focus Peaking – The camera can highlight what’s in focus; great for people with bad eye sight or when manually focusing
- Viewfinder – While EVF vs Optical is a personal preference in terms of which one looks nicer, the EVF has a 100% viewfinder coverage and shows you exactly how your shot is going to look before taking a picture
- 4K Video – Not only does the A6300 sweep the 77D in Full HD video (120fps), it also offers 4K at 30fps!
- Weight & Size – Slightly lighter, noticeably smaller
The Sony A6300 is mirrorless and can therefore be much more compact, despite the fact both cameras use an APS-C sensor. Since there’s no mirror, it’s why the A6300 can shoot a whopping 11fps and offer 425 AF points. If you need 4K video then you already know which one is a better deal.
