Canon 80D Advantages:

  • Megapixels – 4 more megapixels makes a difference when printing large, but not for mostly viewing your pictures on the monitor
  • Sensor Size – APS-C is bigger than MFT which results in slightly better low light performance at high ISO
  • AF System – The 80D may have 5x less AF points, but all 45 of those are phase detect and cross-type, whereas the GH5’s are all contrast based. The 80D will focus quicker on moving subjects and in low light, but the GH5 is also very good.
  • Top LCD Display – You can quickly preview all of your settings, as well as battery life, focusing mode etc. Helps a lot when shooting in manual modes
  • Built-in Flash
  • Built-in NFC
  • Battery Life – 550 shots longer battery life
  • Less Expensive – The 80D body only costs around $900 less

The 80D is bigger since it’s a DSLR, which results in a lot longer battery life, top LCD display, more sophisticated AF system that’ll work better in low light too, and 8 more megapixels. Both cameras are worth the money, but it depends on which advantages you prefer for your style of photography.

Panasonic GH5 Advantages:

  • AA Filter – The Panasonic GH5 has no AA filter
  • Body Stabilization – The GH5 has built-in 5-axis stabilization that works with every lens
  • 12 vs 7fps – 5fps more every second is a lot for sports and wildlife
  • LCD Display – 3.2″ vs 3.0″ and a higher resolution
  • Focus Peaking – The GH5 can highlight what’s in focus! Excellent when focusing manually, whether it’s video or photography
  • Viewfinder Coverage – 100% vs 98%
  • 4K Video – The GH5 can record 4K videos at 60p and has a ton of exciting video features, check them out here
  • Dual Memory Cards – The GH5 has 2 x SD memory card slots
  • UHS-II – It has faster minimum writing speeds than UHS-I
  • Faster Max Shutter Speed – 1/16000 vs 1/8000
  • Slowest Max Shutter Speed – 60″ vs 30″, but both have Bulb mode
  • Buffer – 600 vs 53 for JPEG, 60 vs 24 for RAW files
  • Built-in Bluetooth
  • USB 3.0 vs 2.0 – Faster file transferring out of the camera
  • Size & Weight – The GH5 weighs 225g less and is noticeably smaller

The new GH5 is a very impressive camera. If you’re serious about video recording and want a compact camera that can do it all, and in 4K (not to mention 1080p at 180fps), this is your best option. There’s so much new stuff you’d better check out this in-depth video of all specifications.
