Pentax K-S2 Advantages:
- Megapixels – The K-S2 has 2 more megapixels. Not a big difference though.
- AA Filter – You can turn the AA filter on and off. When off, the images may appear slightly sharper, but you risk getting moire on your shots (mostly with clothes). If that happens, simply turn it on again
- Body Image Stabilization – The K-S2 has built-in image stabilization that works with every lens, even if that one has no IS technology. Excellent for older lenses or expensive primes.
- Higher Max ISO – The native ISO is 3 stops higher
- AF Points – It only has 2 more AF points, but 9 are cross-type compared to only 1 on the T6. These are faster in all situations.
- 5 vs 3fps – Noticeably faster for sports and wildlife
- LCD Display – It’s fully articulated which is helpful for shooting subjects that are way above or below you
- Focus Peaking – The K-S2 can highlight what’s in focus before taking a picture. Excellent if you have bad eye sight or are using manual lenses
- Viewfinder – 100% coverage with a higher magnification. This won’t affect your shots, but you’ll see your subjects bigger and better.
- Microphone Jack – If you need good audio quality, the K-S2 allows you to plug in an external microphone
- UHS-I – Both cameras support SD, but the T6 doesn’t support UHS-I type SD cards and won’t be able to use the faster writing speeds they offer
- Faster Max Shutter Speed – 1/6000 vs 1/4000
- JPEG Buffer – The amount of JPEGs you can take before the buffer fills is 28 compared to 15
- RAW Buffer – 9 versus 6
- Time-Lapse
- Environmentally Sealed – The K-S2 is much better protected for shooting in rain/snow/dust and such places
- Size – The body of the K-S2 is quite smaller, despite the T6 already being small
The Pentax K-S2 costs a little bit more, but even the built-in stabilization alone is pretty much worth that, especially if you’re going to use a lot of different lenses.
The biggest advantages are much higher ISO, 5fps, a better viewfinder, the AF system with 9 cross-type points and definitely the environmental sealing. All Pentax’s cameras have plenty of seals protecting them from water getting in.

Canon T6 Advantages:
- Startup Time – Turns on twice as fast (0.5s vs 1s)
- Battery Life – 90 shots longer battery life
- Less Expensive – With the kit 18-55mm lens, the T6 costs around $120 less
The Canon T6 doesn’t look impressive compared to the slightly more expensive K-S2, but if your budget is under $500 and you just want a simple affordable camera, there’s nothing better.
