Canon T7i Advantages:
- Cross-Type– All 45 points are cross-type compared to 15 on the A77 II.
- LCD Size – Fully articulated instead of only tilting LCD.
- Touchscreen – The T7i has touchscreen support so you can select your focus point on the screen itself, and also navigate/zoom in your pictures quicker.
- Buffer – The JPEG buffer is unlimited compared to 26. For most situations 26 will be enough, but in certain sports/wildlife moments you’ll want to go higher than that. RAW is nearly identical.
- Connections – The T7i also features a Bluetooth connection
- Battery Life – A little bit over 100 shots longer
- Size & Weight – The T7i is almost 200g lighter and noticeably smaller
- Less expensive – Body only, the T7i goes for $250 less
The main advantages of the T7i are Canon’s Dual Pixel AF for video tracking of fast subjects, bigger buffer, touchscreen and the articulating LCD screen. It’s also cheaper, but it depends on how much you’re willing to spend.
It’s also more compact so don’t forget about the size and weight differences.

Sony A77 II Advantages:
- Body Stabilization – The A77 II has a 5-axis built-in stabilization that works for photos and videos.
- 12fps vs 6fps – Twice as fast! Excellent for sports and wildlife.
- Focus Peaking – Every mirrorless camera offers focus peaking. If you’re focusing with a manual lens or have a bad eye sight, the camera highlights what part of your image is in focus. Great for video too!
- Top LCD Display – This is something you’ll never see on an entry-level DSLR. Having a top LCD display means you can quickly see and change all of your settings, and that includes ISO and auto focus type as well. If shooting in manual, you don’t always have to check the LCD screen if your settings are correct.
- Viewfinder – Its coverage is 100% and what you see in the viewfinder is exactly what you get (exposure wise too) since it’s electronic. The magnification is also a little bit bigger too.
- Faster Max. Shutter Speed – 1/8000 vs 1/4000
- Flash X-Sync Speed – 1/250 instead of 1/200
- Environmentally Sealed – More protected for shooting in rain/snow/dust etc.
The A77 II has a translucent mirror, which is why the camera is capable of shooting 12 frames per second.
It’s quite for affordable for what it offers really; 24MP APS-C sensor, 12fps, built-in stabilization and environmental sealing.
If you’re okay with spending $250 and find the advantages a must for your work, then the A77 II will be great. You can check out all Sony’s A lenses here because there aren’t nearly as
