Canon T7i Advantages:
- Built-in Video Stabilization – You get a 5 axis electronic stabilization that works only in video mode. Huge advantage for shooting with lenses that don’t have IS, and even with those that do have it!
- Dual Pixel AF – The T7i is the first Rebel to feature Dual Pixel AF technology. Auto focusing for video and live view photography is now faster and smoother.
- 1 stop higher maximum ISO – 51,200 vs 25,600. The quality should be similar, but expect slightly better results at high ISO due to the new Digic 7 processor
- 45 vs 19 AF Points – This is easily the most amazing feature of any Rebel in the past few years. Having 45 points allows you to be more precise with where you want to focus on your subject
- 45 cross-type points – Cross-type points are more accurate than regular ones, and this type was usually reserved for more expensive models. Not anymore! The T6i isn’t bad with 19, but the T7i is on a whole another level, borrowing the focusing system from the Canon 80D
- 6 vs 5fps – One extra frame per second isn’t revolutionary, but it’s enough to make a difference if you often shoot sports and wildlife often.
- Bigger RAW Buffer – If you shoot RAW, you’ll be glad to know that the T7i at 6fps allows you to take 27 RAW shots before the buffer fills. Both cameras offer unlimited JPEG shots.
- Bluetooth – You can now send your shots using Bluetooth
- Battery Life – Despite Bluetooth being constantly on, the T7i’s battery will get you 260 more photographs with a single charge.
- Weight & Size – The T7i is noticeably lighter and just a little bit smaller.
Every time Canon updated their Rebel line, we sort of already knew the features the new model would get because Canon was predictable. None of us expected the Rebel T7i to come equipped with a 45-all cross-type AF system though.
All advantages we just listed are easily worth the $150 increase in price. The battery life alone, which makes the T7i a better camera for traveling, would be enough for many to pay more. Then there’s the 6fps with a bigger buffer, video stabilization, lighter body weight and of course the 45 AF points.

Canon T6i Advantages:
- Less expensive – Around $150 less
The T6i is still an excellent camera and shares a lot with the T7i above. For starters, they both have a 24.2MP sensor so you can print huge and crop a lot with both.
Their 3.0″ LCD screens are fully articulated and support touchscreen, they both have a built-in Wi-Fi and an external microphone jack. Surprisingly, the new T7i does not record Full HD at 60fps so there’s no differences in the frame rate department either.
